Ambassadors from Brazil, Japan and Germany met the Minister of External Relations yesterday, January 15, 2015 in Yaounde.

2015 is a very important year in the calendar of the United Nations Organisation (UNO) for the international body will celebrate its 70th anniversary. Germany, Japan, India and Brazil under the canopy of a group called “G4”, intend to use the opportunity to launch debates for reforms of the Security Council.

It was against this backdrop that Ambassadors Klaus Ludwig Keffrstein of Germany, Nei Futuro Bittencourt of Brazil and Tsutomu Arai of Japan were received by the Minister of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo, yesterday, January 15, 2015 in Yaounde. At the end of the audience, the diplomats from the “G4” told the press that they had given Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo a document of proposals for reforms of the UN Security Council.

“In that document, we defined a common position which we intend to share with African countries during the African Union summit scheduled for next week in Addis Abeba,” said Ambassador Nei Futuro Bittencourt of Brazil. “G4 intends to meet African leaders because one of the characteristics of its position is that the document considers several topics that are important as well to African countries, the diplomat said, giving the number of seats in the Security Council as an example.

The document also enables the convergence of several different visions. For Ambassador Tsutomu Arai, the proposals will promote the momentum of the debate on reforms of the Security Council.
