Some 15 people, two of them women, were arrested on Thursday January 15, 2015, at the Etoug-Ebe neigbourhood.

Gendarmes of the Efoulan Gendarmerie Brigade in the Yaounde III Subdivision confiscated 4,250 kilograms of Indian hemp, commonly known as marijuana, on Thursday, January 15, 2015, in Etoug-Ebe a Yaounde neighbourhood.

Reports say following investigations by the gendarmes, the marijuana was seized in Etoug-Ebe Quartier Joie, Etouge-Ebe Quartier City and Etouge-Ebe TKC. The gendarmes seized 17 sachets of marijuana weighing 250 kgs each from a wholesaler who had transformed his home into a “marijuana wholesale shop” in Etoug-Ebe Quartier Joie. Still in Quartier Joie, a sack containing eight kilograms of marijuana was seized from the same wholesaler. Apart from the marijuana, the gendarmes also found two suspected stolen motorbikes in the home of the suspect. Sources close to the gendarmerie said the marijuana is sold with the help of a boy.

At Etouge-Ebe Quartier City, 96 sticks of marijuana, three packets of Benson and Hedges cigarettes loaded with marijuana and 13 ash trays containing cigarettes stumps, sachets of whisky, cartons of drugs like Paracetamol, Tramol, and Diclofenace, among others, were also found. In all, 11 people were caught in a hall smoking. Out of the number were two women. Nine mobile phones and an iPad were equally seized.

The gendarmes also found two big stems of marijuana, playing cards and FCFA 10,550, allegedly from the sale of marijuana. At Etoug-Ebe TKC, one person was caught with a tray, two sticks of marijuana, and stems. Presently, 13 of the suspected marijuana dealers are in gendarmerie custody in Efoulan and the two others are in the Mewoulou Brigade in Etoug-Ebe. The operation was carried out by a team of 20 gendarmes led by the Company Commander of Yaounde II, Captain Berthelot Ndjima and the Brigade Commanders of Mewoulou and Biyem-Assi. Gendarmerie investigations are going on to find the other suspects.
