Three Fake Certificates Uncovered

The commission for evaluating foreign training met over the weekend.

After studying some 214 applications in Yaounde on Thursday, January 15, 2015, for authentication and granting of Cameroon equivalences of certificates obtained from African, European and American schools, the commission tasked with the purpose uncovered three fake Baccalaureat certificates - the equivalence of the GCE Advanced Level.

Preferring not to mention the countries of origin of the certificates, an official in the Ministry of Higher Education, explained that the problem was not with the foreign schools, but with Cameroonians who fabricate certificates to give the impression that they were issued by the said schools.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Higher Education and Chancellor of Academic Orders, Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo, explained that the whole exercise was intended to appreciate, evaluate and endorse foreign academic systems, adding that it could contribute to improving Cameroon’s educational standards.

Meanwhile, the National Commission For Evaluating Foreign Training Courses says it faces challenges in carrying out its work such as lack of understanding on the part of members of the public who do not often request equivalence for their foreign certificates on time. Also, there are delays by foreign schools in providing information on their status and course content.
