The Council will provide land while a Canadian charity shall disburse funding for the low-cost project.

Victor Nkelle Ngoh, the Government Delegate to the Kumba City Council in Meme Division of the South West Region, has disclosed that the Council and ‘Option for Homes,’ a Canada-based charity, are negotiating a partnership for the construction of low-cost homes in the municipality.

“The Kumba City Council will provide land while ‘Option for Homes’ will offer money for the development of the said homes,” the Government Delegate explained.  Victor Nkelle Ngoh was speaking to Grand Councilors, aides and officials during a recent budgetary session chaired by the Senior Divisional Officer for Meme, Koulbout Aman David. Meanwhile, the Kumba City Council, Cameroon World Service SARL, with the technical assistance of ELISOLAR, Turkey, have reached understanding for a solar power lighting scheme. Under the deal, feasibility studies will be carried out for the execution of the pilot project for public lighting in Kumba.

The Kumba City Council’s budget for 2015, which stands at FCFA 1.5 billion, was also approved at the meeting. Out of the amount, FCFA 600 million is intended for renovating facilities, equipping them with furniture, providing sanitation facilities, improving access to peripheral zones of the city, extending electrification through solar lamps, developing projects from the master plan, and others. Meanwhile, the Senior Divisional Officer for Meme, Koulbout Aman David, used the occasion to remind the Government Delegate, Mayors and Grand Councilors of their responsibility in ensuring development of the area.

He cautioned that “a house divided against itself cannot succeed.” The SDO challenged the Government Delegate, Mayors and the Grand Councilors to always engage in regular dialogue, adding that each of them must play their respective roles. He warned that the amount earmarked for investment should be scrupulously respected and effectively executed.
