The act was discovered on January 14, 2015, following the unexplained prolonged absence of Fohoue Teutcheche I Jean Samuel.

Gendarmes in the border town of Misaje, Donga-Mantung Division of the North West Region, have launched a manhunt for the missing Post Master of the town. The unexplained disappearance of Fohoue Teutcheche I Jean Samuel from his duty post, coincided with the discovery that FCFA 26,765,735 had gone missing from the coffers of the post office.

The information was also confirmed by the Mayor of Misaje, Mbgata Samuel Fokemba. Following the discovery, officials of Campost Misaje submitted a complaint against the main suspect, Fohoue Teutcheche I Jean Samuel. Talking to Cameroon Tribune on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, on phone, the Commander of the Misaje Gendarmerie ‘Brigade Territoriale,’ Chief Warrant Officer Onguene Martin, said investigations were underway to unravel what happened.

He added that an arrest warrant has been issued for the suspect. It is also expected to be shared with the International Criminal Police Organisation, INTERPOL. Onguene Martin suggested that the suspect might have fled across the border into neighbouring Nigeria. Born on January 20, 1971 in Bamendjin in Bamboutous Division of the West Region, Fohoue Teutcheche I Jean Samuel was living in Misaje without his family.

According to the Principal of Government Bilingual High School, Misaje, Mrs. Monica Nchuwa, the local post office is the only micro-financial institution in the little town on which many depend for remittances, collecting salaries and savings. She said her school lost over FCFA 900,000 Parent Teacher Association savings in the incident. She described the mood in the town as being so sullen, as many have lost their life’s savings through the action of the Post Master.
