Cameroon-France Parliamentary Friendship Groups Meet

Issues of security and development were the focus of discussions between the two groups during their meeting at the National Assembly.

The visiting delegation of the French Members of Parliament yesterday 29 January, 2015 held talks with their Cameroonian counterparts within the framework of the Cameroon-France Friendship Group. The meeting took place at the first floor of the National Assembly building. 

In her welcome note, the Vice President of the French Friendship Group at the National Assembly, Hon. Nguini Effa Marie Rose hailed the cooperation between the two Houses which she said has been marked by exchange visits.  “We had discussions on economic development of Cameroon and the problem of stability in other countries. As parliamentarians, we discussed what contributions or suggestions we can make to the government on the prevailing economic and security situation of Cameroon”, she told Cameroon Tribune after the close -door meeting. The meeting was also attended by the President of the Defence and Security Committee at the National Assembly.

The leader of the French delegation, Philippe Baumel, on his part, told reporters that their mission is to seek ways of facilitating investment in Cameroon in order to create employment. He cited some projects being carried out in Cameroon within the French Development Cooperation, notably the construction of the second bridge over the Wouri, amongst others. The delegation of the three French officials is in Cameroon within the framework of Parliamentary Informative Mission on the theme “Stability and development in Francophone Africa”.
