The unity march in Buea on Saturday was a committed resolve to defend the fatherland against heinous acts of terrorism.

Despicable insecurity in the Far North Region masterminded by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, and the influx of refugees to Cameroon from the turbulent Central Africa Republic to the East Region, has not left South West youths unconcerned. The pledge to remain focused was the main objective of a unity march in Buea on February 7, 2015 that brought together youths from all the six administrative divisions of the Region.

Over 2,000 youths sang patriotic songs as they marched from Bonduma to the South West Governor’s Office. They carried placards with patriotic messages: “Cameroonian Youths Pay Great Homage to Our Armed Forces”, “Youths, Vigilance, Patriotism and Solidarity Against Terrorism,” “All behind President Paul Biya in the Fight Against Frontier Criminality”, “No to Disorder and Violence”, etc.

At the South West Governor’s office premises, Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai, in the presence of his close collaborators and top military officials of the Region, told the youths that the Armed Forces will win the war against terrorism in the Far North and East Regions with their support. The youths raised their right hands and unanimously vowed to the Governor that they shall furnish the authorities with any available information on terrorist suspects  in their neighbourhoods.

Through the Governor of the South West, the South West Regional President of the Cameroon Youth Council, Mbowoh Elvis tendered a motion of support to the Armed Forces and to the Head of State, for efforts made in the war against Boko Haram. Susan Fende Lyonga, South West Regional Delegate of Youths Affairs expressed satisfaction on the massive turnout which according to her, is a sign of patriotism. She enjoined all the youths in the region to remain united and focused.
