Bamenda: ‘All Citizens’ National Champion Celebrated

The 49th Youth Day rewarded North West youths that excelled in various domains.

The event in Bamenda saw Ebong Moudoubou Junior, winner of the first edition of the national ‘All Citizens’ schools challenge competition being celebrated as star. The Form Five student of GBHS Bamenda, just back from the competition in Yaounde, presented the trophy and cash prize of FCFA 1 million to North West Governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique.

There were also awards for many other youths of the region that excelled in the nine sectors of academics, sports, social affairs, arts and culture, small and medium-size enterprises, livestock, etc. Among those recognised and encouraged with prizes and attestations were youths who made the difference in fashion design, office automation, entrepreneurship, film production, sports and the GCE and First School Leaving Certificate examinations.

Flags hung along Bamenda’s major streets gave a festive look when the Governor, pupils, students and youths filed out to celebrate at the Commercial Avenue ceremonial grounds. A replay of President Biya’s message to the youths set the pace for the event, which also showcased discipline and excitement when institutions demonstrated rare marching skills. The details showcased a competitive spirit and the joy of participating in Youth Day activities. The visiting Director General of the National School of Administration and Magistracy, (ENAM), out on the field to size up internship activities of ENAM students, also featured as guest.

Fair weather and march past songs added value to the feast that assembled elite, parents and teachers, who kept cheering displays by schools, colleges, professional schools and the State University of Bamenda. It was against this backdrop that the event, which started at 9 am, ended at 2 pm with Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique expressing satisfaction at the hitch-free manner things went.

The launch of national activities in Bafut, Mezam Division of the North West Region on February 3, 2015, set the tone for success. Schools like Educare, Blessed Fostino and All Saints Bayelle, emerged best in the march past for nursery schools, while St Agnes Bilingual Primary came first in the primary school section ahead of Educare and PNEU. PSS Mankon emerged best among colleges ahead of Baptist High School (BHS) Mankon and Sacred Heart College.
