Ambassador Michael Stephen Hoza, has in a recent release, reiterated his country’s commitment to help eradicate the terrorist group.

The United States of America has fully committed to helping Cameroon’s security forces acquire the equipments necessary to defend the country and its Cameroonian people. In a recent release, the U.S. Ambassador to Cameroon, H.E. Michael Stephen Hoza, said his government was working on a “logistic pipeline of material that will enhance Cameroon’s ability to defend itself from Boko Haram.”

Ambassador Stephen Hoza also recalled that U.S. military advisors and trainers were in Cameroon at the invitation of the Cameroonian government to train and support the Cameroonian security forces in their fight against Boko Haram. Furthermore, the tempo and intensity of the training programmes have been increased beyond counter-piracy and peacekeeping to specific training to counter Boko Haram. “This commitment is firm, and will continue for as long as Cameroon welcomes it,” he stated. In the release, the diplomat equally discloses that his country has declared Boko Haram a Foreign Terrorist Organisation and offered $7 million (about FCFA 4 billion) reward to bring Abubakar Shekau to justice.

The US diplomat’s pronouncement that dated February 3, 2015, came against a backdrop of national and international mobilisation against Boko Haram as well as successes recorded on the warfront by Chadian and Cameroonian defence forces. While commending these efforts, Ambassador Stephen Hoza encouraged Cameroon’s neighbours to join together to defeat Boko Haram. He also urged Cameroonians from all regions, political parties and ethnic groups to continue to stand firm in unity against Boko Haram’s efforts to divide the society.
