The two parties are determined to fully implement decisions taken at the close of the 3rd session of the Cameroon-Nigeria Trans-border Security meeting.
The third session of the Cameroon-Nigeria Trans-border Security meeting that held in Yaounde from February 18 to 20, 2015, is now history. Mouth-watering recommendations aimed at putting in check security problems along the lengthy maritime and land borders of the two countries especially the nefarious activities of the Boko Haram insurgents were adopted.
The resolutions which bordered around security, surveillance, diplomacy and justice amongst others were arrived at after three days of intense deliberations by experts from both countries. During the official closing ceremony, the leaders of the Cameroonian and Nigerian delegations, Cameroon’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation, Rene Emmanuel Sadi and Major General Samuel John Babatunde respectively declared the unflinching determination for the resolutions to be implemented.
According to Rene Emmanuel Sadi, the results the committee has achieved so far with pertinent recommendations and resolutions issued at the end of the session will have positive and concrete impacts in the field and undoubtedly ameliorate the spirit of friendship and fraternity between Cameroon and Nigeria. While appreciating the results of the relentless efforts put in by experts, the leader of the Cameroonian delegation assured that the recommendations and suggestions will serve as a template for different government structures in both countries in view of concrete solutions in the field. “It goes without saying that, with this commitment, the government of Cameroon will pay a keen attention to the recommendations of our deliberations and will see into it that they are effectively implemented”, he assured.
On his part, the leader of the Nigerian delegation, Major General Samuel John Babatunde expressed satisfaction to the work done by the experts and noted that it is a manifestation of renewed confidence and the ability of the Trans-border Security Committee to propose solutions which will guarantee security along the borders between the two countries. “The confidence that has been built sustained and consolidated as we progress from session to session,” he stated.. “We have made some remarkable strides in issues deliberated upon as recorded in agreed minutes of this session. We should therefore not relent in ensuring the effective and timely implementation of these recommendations,” the head of the Nigerian delegation affirmed.
