Japan Offers FCFA 87 Million For School Construction

It is for the building and equipment of 10 classrooms in the Centre and North West Regions.

As part of its assistance programme to local micro-projects, the Japanese Embassy in Cameroon on Thursday, February 26, 2015, in Yaounde, signed funding agreements with the Nkambe Council in Donga-Mantung Division of the North West Region and Actions Jeunes, MAJE, a local charity based in Yaounde in the Centre Region.

His Excellency Tsutomu Arai signed the papers for the construction and equipment of five classrooms in Government School, Bambe, Wat in Nkambe Subdivision in Donga-Mantung Division to the tune of FCFA 43.5 million. A similar deal was reached with MAJE for the building and equipment of five classrooms at Government School, Nkolngok in Mbankomo Subdivision, Mefou and Akono Division of the Centre Region. The amount is FCFA 43.5 million. The agreements were signed for Nkambe Council by Mayor Ngabir Paul Bantar and Mrs. Ateba Michelle Carine, Coordinator of MAJE Programmes.

The signing ceremonies were followed by the handover of cheques for the amounts to Ngabir Paul Bantar and Ateba Michelle Carine, in the presence of Fon Ngorake Valentine of Wat. According to Ambassador Tsutomu Arai, the partnerships are intended to improve learning conditions for pupils, adding that the children in Bambi, Wat, will no longer have to trek long distances to attend better schools. The Japanese diplomat pointed out that the new classrooms will benefit over 326 Bambe pupils who had hitherto been compressed in small rooms.

He urged Mayor Ngabir to ensure that the money is well spent for the quality to be like other Japanese-funded schools in the country. On his part, Ngabir Paul Bantar noted that since creation two decades ago, pupils of Bambe Government Primary School have been receiving lessons in two mud classrooms. He expressed joy at the fact that the funding was the biggest to be received by his council in decades.
