Youth Empowerment: Cameroon, Egypt Discuss Cooperation Avenues

Minister Bidoung Mpkatt received the Egyptian Ambassador on February 24, 2015.

Cameroon and Egypt are set to strengthen cooperation in youth empowerment with the possibility of exchange visits and training opportunities in Egypt. Speaking after receiving the Egyptian Ambassador to Cameroon, His Excellency Shérif Salah Eldine Elleithy, on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, the Minister of Youth and Civic Education, Bidoung Mpkatt, promised that his ministry will in the coming days submit proposals on Training Of Trainers, TOT on volunteerism, youth empowerment and assistance for the Scout Movement to the Egyptian Embassy for consideration.

Ambassador Salah Eldine Elleithy said youth strategy was especially necessary today given the challenges young people face. He warned that with extremist ideas gaining currency among youth in most parts of the world today, it was also necessary to do something to keep them busy in order to safeguard national peace and stability. While commending Cameroon for paying attention to youth matters as demonstrated during the recent celebration of the 2015 National Youth Day on February 11, the Egyptian diplomat said his country was ready to discuss any proposals for cooperation in youth empowerment.

The meeting, which was held in the presence of senior officials, saw some of them briefing Ambassador Eldine Elleithy on the role of the Ministry of Youth and Civic Education, MINJEC and its various activities such as the social, economic and political empowerment of youth. Concluding the debriefing session, Minister Bidoung Mpkatt said the activities were also intended to inculcate in youth values of future leadership.
