Winners of the 2015 Mount Cameroon Race of Hope and Bamenda Horse Race were received recently by local authorities.

The Bui Divisional Delegate of Sports and Physical Education, Nchinda Charles, recently presented trophies won by athletes at the 2015 Mount Cameroon Race of Hope and the Bamenda Horse Race organised by Bamenda City Council to the authorities of Bui Division in the North West Region.  

The winners were received by the Senior Divisional Officer for Bui, Nzeki Theophile and the Mayor of Kumbo Council, Njong Donatus Fonyuy, in two separate occasions. In the senior category for female, Gwaya Yvonne, from Authentic Club, Kumbo, was the first to arrive the summit of Mount Cameroon. She took home cash prize of FCFA 10 million and two trophies including, one from the Roger Milla Foundation. Gwaya Yvonne also received an air ticket from Kenyan Airways to attend a marathon in Kenya, besides a scholarship of FCFA 1.5 million for St. Monica University, Buea or send a member of her family.

Other winners of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope in the female category included Nkangebi Confidence, Wirngo Kpunfanla and Ngalim Lizette, who took the second, third and fourth positions. In the junior female category, Wirba Mary Grace, Tumla Claundine, Lenjo  Christabel  and Mbaya Laura, occupied the first, second, third and fourth positions. In the junior male category, Amadou B. Ibrahim from Destiny Club came first while Nuhu Seidou and Idirisu Yaya occupied the sixth and seventh positions. In the senior male category, Lukong Paul came fourth while Amadou Muhamadou and Kongyuy Joseph were fifth and sixth.

In the female relay race, the team from Authentic Club, Kumbo, received a trophy. In the female relay race for female, Ya’a Ngek Immaculate, came second for those aged 55 to 58 years while in the female category for those aged 40 to 45 years, Na’a Yewoon Quinta, came second. The Chantal Biya Foundation provided prizes for all winners while Sanili offered prizes to all the athletes who came first. In the Bamenda Horse Race, Abas Oumarou emerged first to win FCFA 200,000, while Zacaria occupied the second position and Alija Faro came third. The fourth and fifth winners also came from Bui.

Nzeki Theophile welcomed the athletes back home and said he was proud of their performance. Mayor Njong Donatus Fonyuy called on the athletes to take their studies and sports activities serious. Both the Senior Divisional Officer and Mayor offered money for the entertainment of the victorious athletes.
