Decision-making Under Focus At National Assembly

A roundtable discussion on International Women’s Day Celebrations held at the “Glass House” geared towards empowering more women in decision-making.

Women of the National Assembly have brainstormed on how to involve more female folks in decision-making positions in the society. A roundtable discussion that focused on “Women and Decision-making”, took place yesterday March 3, 2015. The debate, moderated by the Questor at the National Assembly, Hon. Pauline Ndoumou, rotated around the theme of the 30th edition of the International Women’s Day; “Implementation of the Beijing Plan of Action: Achievements and Prospects”.

Panellists of the roundtable included the President of the NGO “More Women in Politics”, Professor Justine Diffo Tchounkam, a representative of the Ministry of Women Empowerment and the Family and an official from the German Embassy, Annette Coly.

According to the moderator, Cameroon has always manifested interest in improving the wellbeing of women. The National Assembly, she said, is not indifferent as it adopts laws aimed at improving on the lives of the female folk as well as assisting government in promoting their rights.

The President of the organising committee, Mrs. Ndongobele Helene underlined the importance of the focus of the roundtable discussion stating that law makers are in a better place to influence the women in decision-making.

Weeklong activities to mark the day, come March 8, 2015, were launched on Monday March 2, 2015 by the spouse of the President of the National Assembly, Mrs. Fadimatou Cavaye.  During the launching ceremony, she visited the different cultural villages that constituted a major attraction at the esplanade of the National Assembly. At each of the ten cultural villages representing the ten administrative regions of the country, the visitors were thrilled by the traditional dishes and cultural practices of the different parts of the country.
