Gunmen killed at least 45 people in Egba, Benue State and Boko Haram militants burned down Bama town in Borno State.

Unidentified gunmen on Sunday, March 15, 2015 morning attacked the village of Egba in Benue State in central Nigeria and killed at least 45 people, BBC reported citing the State Police Spokesman, Austin Ezeani.

Local politician Audu Sule on his part reportedly told BBC that 50 villagers had been killed by the attackers who were all armed with Kalashnikov rifles. "They opened fire on the sleepy village, killing residents including women and children," BBC quoted Audu Sule as saying. Benue State Police Spokesman said Police are hunting the attackers but no arrests have been made yet as the murderers all disappeared into the bushes after their barbaric act. Reports say the area has been volatile for some time as clashes between herdsmen from the Fulani ethnic group and farmers over grazing rights have plagued the region. It is reported that at least 100 villagers were killed in central Kaduna State in an attack linked to a dispute between local farmers and herdsmen in 2014. Human Rights Watch reports that farmer-grazer clashes in central Nigeria have caused the death of over 10,000 people within 20 years.

Boko Haram terrorist group militants on their part still on March 15, 2015 chased away inhabitants of Bama town in Borno State in north eastern Nigeria before setting their houses ablaze. The town the Nigerian army is said to be fighting tooth and nail to recapture, has been in the hands of the terrorists for over seven months. A local resident, Umar Kaka who sought refuge in the State capital, Maiduguri some 70 km away said the militants alerted them on Saturday to evacuate their homes. He reportedly said that not all the residents could leave because some were sick, others too old and he expressed fears that some of them might have been roasted in their houses.
