Central African Republic: Armed Groups Continue to Kill

At least 10 people were killed in Ngaoundaye, a border village with Chad on March 14.

Armed groups and gunmen have continued to cause atrocities in the Central African Republic with the recent case being armed men who crossed from Chad and killed at least 10 people in Ngaoundaye Village in the north eastern part of the country, press reports say, citing a local Gendarmerie source. Two students were among the people killed in  the Saturday, March 14, 2015 attack.

The armed men are said to have caught people during the attack, lined up  the first group of 10 people on the street and opened fire on them, the source said and added that the gunmen chased, shot at  and wounded  many  people who tried to escape. Many villagers who succeeded to escape,  found refuge in the bush or centre of  Ngaoundaye. No reasons have yet been given for the attack. However, people in the area have been victims of similar attacks by gunmen. Reports say international forces operating under the banner of the UN Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA)  have been deployed to the area  to maintain peace and order. The Muslim dominated ex-Seleka rebel group members that ousted former President François Bozize  in 2013  have been chased by the rival Christian dominated Anti-balaka group right to neighbouring countries. The presence of the international forces made up of the French force (Sangaris), European Union force (EUFOR) and the UN peacekeeping force (MINUSCA) have helped to stabilize the situation in the Central African Republic but have not succeeded to pacify the entire country and some neighbourhoods of the capital, Bangui.

Insecurity have persisted in Bangui  with the latest example being the wounding  of a French soldier of the Sangaris Operation  during fire exchange with armed men in the north of Bangui on Monday, March 16, 2015. The French soldiers were said to be on patrol when they were attacked and they put up a stiff resistance before being reinforced by MINUSCA peacekeepers. One of the assailants were killed and the joined Sangaris and MINUSCA troops succeeded to secure the area.
