H.E. Klaus-Ludwig Kefferstein and his host assessed the recent visit by German Cooperation Minister to Cameroon and Pierre Mokoko Mbonjo’s visit to Germany.
The recent visit by the German Federal Minister of Cooperation and Economic Development, Dr. Gerd Müller, from 12 to 15 March 2015, was at the centre of discussions between the German Ambassador to Cameroon, H.E. Klaus-Ludwig Kefferstein, and the Minister of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo, during an audience granted the former yesterday, March 24, 2015 in Yaounde.
Dr Gerd Müller’s visit to Cameroon was geared at reinforcing German-Cameroon multifaceted cooperation. In an audience granted by Minister Moukoko Mbonjo on March 13, 2015, Dr. Gerd Müller announced the need to deepen the student exchange programme between both countries and the strengthening of economic cooperation through the creation of a Forum in the German city of Berlin which will enable Cameroonian and German businessmen exchange. The meeting between Dr. Gerd Müller and his delegation thereafter with the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang at the Star Building, added impetus to the strengthening of the already fruitful bilateral relations in the domains of investments especially in agriculture. To that effect, a Memorandum of Understanding signed between both parties expressed Germany’s resolve to help strengthen the production of Irish potatoes and poultry farming. The agreement also laid emphasis to the promotion new techniques in agriculture.
The German Minister later participated in a Conference on Forest Ecosystems and Biodiversity Management at the German Cooperation House in Yaounde during which the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife, Phillip Ngole Ngwese, was one of the speakers. It was disclosed that the involvement of German cooperation was the most important bilateral cooperation in the forestry sector with current funding amounting to over 130 million Euros (over FCFA 85 billion) in financial cooperation and 45 million Euros (over FCFA 29 billion) in technical cooperation with 45 more million Euros in the pipeline.
The meeting yesterday also gave Minister Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo the opportunity to discuss his recent visit to Germany as well as an update in the fight against Boko Haram. Bilateral relations between both countries were established on November 23, 1960.
