It emerged from Friday’s council session that FCFA 15.3 billion was carried forward.
The 2014 revenue of the Douala City Council (DCC) was on Friday, March 27, detailed out to senior councillors in the presence of the Senior Divisional Officer and the Divisional Officer for Wouri and the Secretary General of all six councils in the Division. Going by the President of the council, Dr Fritz Ntone Ntone, the 2014 revenue stood at FCFA 43,976,805,085 and expenditure at FCFA 28,586,074,755 giving a difference of FCFA 15,390,730,330. According to him, the unspent FCFA 15.3 billion is due to unrealised and unconsumed credit by contractors.
The DCC carried out a handful of activities in December 2014 alone including the field visits of some ongoing projects like works on the East entrance to the port city and the Bali, Japoma and New-Deido roads rehabilitation. The council also constructed a new ceremonial ground at Besseke which already host the Youth Day and the International Women’s Day celebrations. The construction works on the second bridge over River Wouri is one of the projects that the City Council visited severally to know the state of advancement. Another activity that will interest Douala businessmen and the Nation as a whole is the recent visit of the South African delegation from the city of Durban in Johannesburg who made their intensions known to corporate with Cameroon in domains like infrastructure, tourism, mining and engineering.
A report jointly produced by the Finance and Economic Commission, the Giant Project Commission, the Environment and Sustainable Development and the Socio-Cultural Commissions indicated that the 2014 revenue execution rate stood at 78 per cent. The carried over revenue for 2013 was eight billion while that of 2014 stood at 15 billion. The report indicated that a FCFA 1.26 billion is still to be recovered from taxes with council tax inclusive.
The SDO for Wouri, Naseri Paul Bea, saluted the council for organising cleanliness competition in the Division and for the construction of the new ceremonial ground. He however enjoined them to intensify the fight against urban disorder.
