A one-day forum on the situation of justice in Cameroon took place in Yaoundé yesterday March 31, 2015.

Justice in Cameroon has many loopholes which are persistent in spite of efforts by the government and other social partners to give the judicial system of the country a facelift. The people of Cameroon who are subject to the law are often the first victims of such malfunctioning raised.  It is in this light that a one-day forum on the theme: “The Independence of the magistracy in Cameroon: Stakes and challenges” took place in Yaounde yesterday March 31, 2015.

Speaking at the opening, the President of CEPROD, Emile Nzalli Fezze said the Cameroon government is determined to relentlessly bring justice closer to persons subject to legal proceedings; Cameroon civil society organisations and other partners are resolutely committed to working hand-in-gloves with the State in a bid to attain such a lofty goal. He called on participants to make concrete proposals in order to come out with resolutions to help fine-tuning the report and pave the way for the future.

The objective of the forum was a public restitution of the results of the project named the Observatory of Justice in Cameroon (OBJUSCAM) initiated by the civil society together with the Centre for the Promotion of Law (CEPROD). The findings gathered on the field focused on some justice practices across the country. It is expected that at the end of the workshop, more social actors will learn from project OBJUSCAM and will better understand the problems facing justice systems in Cameroon in order to help improve the judicial system in Cameroon.
