Women Afrobasket 2015 Organising Committee:Members Commissioned

The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Adoum Garoua on Tuesday April 14 commissioned to office the members of the local organising committee of the 2015 edition of the basketball Cup of Nations, Afro-basket, to be hosted by Cameroon from September 24th to October 3rd. While commissioning them to office, Adoum Garoua called on the members to do everything possible for the event to be successful in Yaounde and also enable the female volleyball national team to prepare well for the competition so as to lift the trophy. He therefore recommended a three-month training camp for the volleyball Lionesses.

It was disclosed during the ceremony that the draws for the Afro-basket and African games will take place at the YAOUNDE Conference centre on May 9th. The draws for the men which were conducted in Tunis recently will also be completed for the remaining three groups that were not completed. According to the president of the Cameroon Basketball federation, Samuel Nduku, Fecabasket is up to date with its contributions to the African Basketball federation. According to the director of competition at the federation, Bendegue Robert, preparations are already underway to let the event take place hitch-free in Cameroon in terms of security, visas arrangements, transportation, lodging and feeding of the foreign delegations that will be visiting the country.

U-20 World Cup Draws Out

The draws for the U-20 women’s World Cup to take place in Papua New Guinea next year have been made public. Cameroon is exempted from the preliminary round and will have to meet Ethiopia again in the first round qualifiers. There will be three rounds of qualifiers and the eventual winners qualify for the final round of the tournament. The matches for the first round will take place in the month of July while the second round matches will take place in September and the third round in the months of October and November 2015.

U-23 African Championship Draws Known

The draws for the U-23 African championship in football have also been rendered public by the confederation of African football. Cameroon again is exempted from the first round and will only be joining the campaign in the second round. They will face the winner of the first round encounter between Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone and in case of victory, will take on Algeria in the third round. According to the CAF communiqué, all players participating in the preliminary and final tournament of U-23 African Championship should be born on or after 1 January 1993. The top three teams of the U-23 African Championship, Senegal 2015, shall qualify to the Olympic Games in Rio 2016. The first round matches will take place in May, the second round in July and August.
