Centre Pasteur Polio Follow-up Unit Inaugurated

The structure is for infectious diseases such as polio, yellow-fever, measles and common cold.

Public Health Minister, Andre Mama Fouda alongside other health officials last Thursday, April 16, 2015 in Yaounde inaugurated a newly constructed virology and bacteria laboratory building at the Centre Pasteur of Cameroon. The two-storey building is not only meant to carry out viral and bacterial medical analysis but also to host some administrative offices of the structure as well as to provide space for the follow-up of infectious diseases such as polio, yellow-fever, measles and common cold.

While lauding the administration of Centre Pasteur for the execution of such a project, Andre Mama Fouda reiterated that although the polio virus has not been recorded in the country since July last year, vigilance and surveillance are necessary for a complete eradication of the deadly virus. The country representative of the World Health Organisation in Cameroon, Dr Charlotte Faty Ndiaye said the follow-up unit for infectious diseases was a good fight against the polio virus and a sign of progress to completely eradicate polio in the country.

The Director of Centre Pasteur, Dr Guy Vernet said the project was carried out thanks to a vast plan to restructure the institution signed between Centre Pasteur and the government of Cameroon. Within the plan, Centre Pasteur would have completely changed the institutions by constructing more buildings within three years so as to receive patients in the best condition.
