The course is intended to push the country towards emergence by 2035.

“Illiteracy today is not only inability to read and write but also to use modern Information and Communication Technology tools.” Dr. Moussa Oumarou, Coordinator General of the Board of Imams and Muslim Dignitaries, CIDIMUC, made the statement during a ceremony to hand over end-of-course attestations to 17 Imams and some 30 young people at the Conference Hall of the Cameroon Business Guild, Gicam, in Douala April 27. Dr. Moussa Oumarou underscored the fact that the training will help in the implementation of resolutions of the Third Conference of Imams, improve on communication, sensitise, and speed up development.

The completed two months of computing by the African Institute of Computer Sciences, IAI, in Cameroon’s main port city.

Resident Representative of IAI Cameroon, Armand Claude Abanda, harped on the importance of the training, noting that the drilling of the Muslims followed a convention between IAI Cameroon and CIDIMUC for the training of 1,000 Imams in IAI centres throughout the ten regions of Cameroon. Some 40 Imams have already received the training in Yaounde and the exercise is expected to be executed in the eight other regions in the nearest future. The computing course, dubbed “Operation 1,000 youths and women by 2035”, seeks to hurtle the country towards emergence.

The ceremony was presided over by the Secretary General at the Littoral Governor’s Office, Ludovic Ngwba, in the presence of the Imam of the Douala Central Mosque, Malik Farouk, among others.
