The Nigerian-born athlete won the trophy for the second consecutive time on Saturday.

The 6^th edition of the Yaounde international golf tournament ended at the golf club in Yaounde on Saturday with Udoh Uche Andrew from Nigeria emerging champion for the second consecutive time. The defending champion conserved his title by outsmarting Cameroonian-born on the last day of the competition. Cameroon was however far from ridiculous in the tournament as they occupied the second, third, fourth and fifth positions respectively. Nlarep Issa Armand, Ebela Desiré, Tata Lesley and Ottou Philippe came second, third, fourth and fifth respectively.

According to the winner of the tournament, he had an edge over the others because he is to take part in the London open and has been preparing for the event. The Yaounde open therefore served as preparation for him. Meanwhile, the Cameroonian athletes complained of lack of enough preparation, competitions and support from the sports authorities of the country. Meanwhile the amateur category was an all Cameroon affair with Eyenga Christian and Emtcheu Elise emerging champions in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.

Presiding at the closing ceremony, the Inspector of Pedagogy at the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, Dohbobga Macias, urged Cameroonian athletes to work hard so as to win the next edition of the tournament. He said government supports all active sports federations and urged official of the golf federation to promote the discipline in all the nooks and crannies of the nation.

The President of the National Olympic Committee, Colonel Kalkaba Malboum promised assisting the best Cameroonian golfers to prepare well for the next edition of the tournament. He said golf was henceforth an Olympic sports discipline, reason why the projected Olympic village in Obala will also comprise an 18-hole golf course. The president of the golf federation, Assiga Ahanda Yves Martin announced that the next edition of the tournament will take place from May 8^th to 14^th 2016 and the cash prize will be increased from FCFA 6.5 million to 10 million.
