Driving schools in the economic capital have not registered candidates for May examination session.

The driving school syndicate in Cameroon is not happy. They want the Transport Ministry to use qualified jury to judge candidates sitting the examination to obtain drivers license, eliminate corruption in Transport Offices where workers register clandestine candidates who have never been to a driving school. These and more have pushed the driving school syndicate to want to dialogue with the Transport Minister to no avail. As a result, they have vowed to carry out strike action till their grievances are looked into.

As part of the strike action, driving schools in the port city have refused to register candidates for the May examination session. According to Ariane Malogho of Auto Ecole Européenne in Deido, the last date to deposit candidate’s files in the transport office was on May 9th and no school has deposited a single file till date. To her, the date for the written part of the exams has been scheduled for Saturday, May 23 while the practical part will run from the 25th to the 26th of the same month.

Going by the syndicate, no exams will be conducted in the Region till there is a frank dialogue between the syndicate and the Ministry. Since the announcement of the strike action, driving school activities have witnessed a drop with some closing their doors on Saturdays which has never been the case. Though candidates will not be presented for May’s session, Ariane Malogho said they will continue with the theoretical and practical lessens in their various driving schools while waiting for favourable response from the Ministry.
