The dilapidated colonial edifices were also equipped and handed over to the population by CERAC last Friday May 22, 2015.

Inhabitants of Poutkak and Botko villages in the Sanaga Maritime Division of the Littoral Region considered Friday, May 22, 2015 as a “Blessed and Joyous” day when they saw a delegation of the Circle of Friends of Cameroon (CERAC) alongside packets of gifts for their educational community.

In fact, the Founding President of CERAC, First Lady of Cameroon, Mrs Chantal Biya sent a delegation from her association to the village, to officially handover the Poutkak and Botko Government Primary Schools which had been rehabilitated and equipped by CERAC. The personal representative of the First Lady at the ceremony was Mrs Angèle Nyetam, who is also the Deputy CERAC Delegate for the Littoral Region.  During the event, special gifts from the First Lady were handed to the schools.

From Yaounde passing through Ngambe in the Sanaga Maritime Division, Angèle Nyetam and her delegation arrived at Government Primary School Poutkak with gifts for pupils and teachers in the community. Angèle Nyetam explained how CERAC’s Founding President was informed about the deteriorated state of the Poutkak and Botko schools and engaged on a mission to rehabilitate and equip them. In both schools, CERAC carried out an entire overhaul of the school buildings.

The classrooms were refurbished, equipped with modern teaching tools as well as a modern connection to electricity. Both institutions were also equipped with modern toilets and water catchments to enable pupils have access to potable water. CERAC also constructed a platform in both schools where the flag of the country will not only be hoisted but through which pupils will acquire citizenship education.

The CERAC delegation also carried along other didactic materials, cleaning equipment, office furniture and medications for the educational community of the locality. Angèle Nyetam told the pupils that through the gifts, the First Lady has once more shown that she loves them and cherishes their wellbeing. “The First Lady wants you to be respectful and hard working in school so that in the future, you will become exemplary Cameroonians that will positively contribute to an emerging Cameroon,” the First Lady’s representative told the pupils. She added that CERAC’s action translates the will of Mrs Chantal Biya to accompany government in its mission to improve and provide quality education to all Cameroonians.

Other speakers during the event lauded CERAC for its humanitarian actions. Talking on behalf of traditional rulers, Samuel Nogbe said the donations came on time because both schools, which belonged to missionaries since the 1950’s, were given to the government in 1970 and have never benefitted from any renovation. Samuel Nogbe thanked the First Lady for improving their children’s path in seeking knowledge. The Divisional Delegate for Basic Education in the Sanaga Maritime Division, Pierre Ngambi said with such a good gesture from CERAC, the schools have become a pool of attraction even to parents who still resist sending their children to school.
