Incumbent President General, Fon Teche Njei, is accused of attempting to deprive some divisions of the opportunity to lead NOWEFU.
“As a full time politician, I am at a loss why His Royal Highness Fon Chafah, a Magistrate of the State of Cameroon, stresses and mixes politics when talking about the North West Fons’ Union, NOWEFU. Let it be on record that the Executive Committee of NOWEFU will soon designate the division to produce the next President General ahead of an Elective General Assembly in November 2015,” explained Senator Fon Teche Njei, NOWEFU President General to Cameroon Tribune.
“I have appointed a seven-man committee to produce a constitution for adoption from existing constitutions of NOWEFU before the Elective Assembly. The Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, of Mezam has confirmed that NOWEFU’s file has no constitution and we have to adopt and present one before the assembly. Perhaps, I should add that Fon Chafah’s correspondence to the SDO is personal because he was not mandated by the Fons of the North West Region,” Fon Teche concluded. His Majesty Fon Teche Njei talked to Cameroon Tribune on the heels of a May 18, 2015, correspondence from His Majesty Chafah XI, promoter and co-founder of NOWEFU to Mezam SDO.
The correspondence accuses Fon Teche Njei of refusing to convene an elective general assembly after the expiration of his mandate on 16th March 2015; thereby putting the cardinal principle of rotation based on fair play and justice in jeopardy. It emerges from the correspondence that the peace and unity of North West Fons is threatened by attempts to deprive Donga-Mantung and Boyo Divisions of their turns to head NOWEFU. Issues raised by the correspondence indicate that the incumbent no longer has the locus standi to act on behalf of NOWEFU.
Meanwhile, Mezam SDO, Felix Ngeule Nguele, acknowledged receipt of a constitution of NOWEFU by Fon Teche’s predecessor in 2006. From the look of things, the archives of the SDO’s office were later tampered with, explaining the absence of the constitution from the file. That is why Felix Nguele Nguele recently summoned stakeholders of NOWEFU who agreed on a certain version of the constitution, revised in 2006 and endorsed by the Fons of Bafut, Babungo, Nkambe, etc.
The SDO appeared at a loss when 48 hours later, he received calls from some of the Fons alleging that what they considered an authentic constitution was rather a draft still to be adopted. It was against this backdrop that the SDO told Cameroon Tribune that he advised the Fons to summon a general assembly and agree on a constitution; thereby beginning from scratch.
