SDF Celebrates Silver Jubilee Of Hope

CPDM, NUDP, UPC and foreign delegations saluted SDF’s leadership and contributions to peace, democracy and advancement of Cameroon.

Twenty five years of the opposition experienced by the Social Democratic Front party (SDF), is the event that pulled thousands of party members and guests to the Bamenda grandstand ceremonial ground on May 26, 2015. It was a day for the party that promotes power to the people and social justice.

A grand rally dropped curtains on the jubilee anniversary which featured weeklong activities that covered cutting of the anniversary cake, laying of Wreath  for the party’s martyrs of democracy, clean up campaigns, conference debates, launch of jubilee publications, ecumenical service, sporting activities, song and poetry competitions and fund raising to support  Cameroonian and Chadian soldiers battling the terrorist, Boko Haram.

In effect, green was the domineering colour at the event  when  North West Governor, Adolphe  Lele Lafrique and the Representative of the CPDM National Chairman, Jean Nkuete, joined SDF militants to salute the party’s  25-year achievements and cheer the peaceful leadership of the party. It was against this backdrop that the National Chairman of the SDF, Ni John Fru Ndi said the launching of the party on May 26, 1990 was a response to the overdue one-party dictatorship.

He saluted the presence of the CPDM delegation and others which he hoped together could help Cameroon emerge with an enhanced democracy.  He greeted the Founding Fathers of the party, wisdom men and women of the party, “hunting dogs”, party martyrs and militants who turned full circle and sacrificed for the emergence of the party. He stated the preparedness of the SDF to continue to pursue change through the ballot box and stressed the need for transparency and accountability in administration and transparent elections based on the two-round Presidential poll.

A goodwill message from the Representative of the CPDM National Chairman, Jean Nkuete, hailed Ni John Fru Ndi’s personal contributions toward peace, democracy and the advancement of Cameroon. He encouraged the SDF leadership to stay on course so that the two major political parties in Cameroon should continue to consolidate peace, security, unity and democracy.

Jean Nkuete greeted the SDF for standing solidly by the nation in fighting the terrorist sect, Boko Haram, and all forces of destabilisation. The NUDP, UDC and some foreign delegations also cheered the SDF for efforts to take democracy forward. SDF Senators, MPs, Vanguards, “Takumbengs”, SDF Electoral Districts marched past to grace the event.
