Commemorative activities at the Ministry of External Relations on May 26, 2015 were chaired by Dr. Joseph Dione Ngute.
The role of women in the development of Africa came under focus at this year’s celebrations of the African Day placed under the theme “2015: Year of Empowerment of Women and development in view of implementing 2063 Agenda of Africa”.
The theme according to the Minister Delegate in the Ministry of External Relations in charge of the Commonwealth, Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute falls in line with the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and its plan of action and the 15th anniversary of Resolution 1325 of the United Nations Security Council focused on the emancipation of the women.
To him, the theme sets the platform to assess progress made so far by African women and how the numerous challenges can be surmounted by African women within the framework of the 2063 development agenda. The AU, he insisted, is therefore calling on equality between men and women in all spheres of life for the African development agenda to be attained.
