Cleanliness Competition: Five Associations Receive FCFA 775,000

Results of the 2015 edition by the Douala II Council were declared over the week-end.

Mothers of Douala II Subdivision have been given enough reasons to keep their surroundings clean. Beside the usual verbal sensitisation and the scanty Community Day for Cleanliness held weekly, the Douala II Council has for the fifth consecutive year held a Cleanliness Competition. Winners of the 2015 edition received cash prizes during an award ceremony that culminated with the commemoration of Mothers’ Day May 31.

City Council Government Delegate Fritz Ntone Ntone presided over the award ceremony in the presence of the Divisional Officer of Douala II and quarter heads. The first prize went to “Association des Femmes Bon Voisinage,” which bagged FCFA 250,000 and an additional FCFA 100,000 from the Hysacam. Speaking at the Youth Multipurpose and Promotion Centre in New Bell, Mayor Denise Fampou drew special attention to the outstanding efforts by women of the “Association des Femmes Bon Voisinage” for construction of a small bridge over a drain beside particularly draining and emptying gutters of wastes at New Town Aéroport III.

The other four out of the “Top 5” association are “Femmes Haut-Nkam,” which received FCFA 200,000, “Solidarité des Filles de Babylone” FCFA 150,000, “Cercle des Femmes Actuelles Musulmanes” FCFA 100,000 and Nkololoun-Nkolmetag Sub-section FCFA 75,000. Besides the cash prizes the winners received dustbins, chloride solutions and cartons of soap, as well as special Mothers’ Day fabric.

Forty-three associations were, however, given wheelbarrows, spades, rakes, chloride solutions, cartons of soap and envelopes with undisclosed sum of money for participation.

In a word of special thanks to the mothers for taking up brooms, shovels and machetes to clean up their environment, Douala City Council Government Delegate Dr. Fritz Ntone Ntone disclosed projects earmarked by the City Council to further give the municipality a befitting facelift, including the on-going rehabilitation of “Rue Roi Njoya”.
