Eximbank U.S.A, Société General of New York and Hoffman Equipment are finalising talks to that effect.

The FCFA 58 billion project to construct an Inter-council Civil Engineering and Water Supply Equipment Pool in Cameroon will soon take off the ground. The project by the Cameroonian government through its project manager, the Special Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance, FEICOM, is taking shape with talks multiplying between the institution and funding partners.

FEICOM on June 2, 2015, played host to a 12-man delegation from Eximbank USA, Société General of New York and Hoffman Equipment. “They have a great team and management. We are ready to offer technical support, equipment as well as training as support to the project,” the President of Hoffman, Tim Waters, told the press after an in-camera working session with the management of FEICOM. The Managing Director of Société General of New York, Phillips LEE, recalled that, “This was a long process they had started and meetings have been multiplying with follow-up exchanges with FEICOM delegations to the U.S.A Phillips LEE holds that the skies are seemingly clear for the project, promising that things might change in the coming weeks. The Director General of FEICOM, Philippe Camille Akoa, is optimistic with the current trend. Camille Akoa stressed that, “All we want today is to sustainably assist local councils in development efforts.” He took the team of investors some 40 km from Yaounde at Koumou II, in Mfou, Centre Region where they were shown round a five hectare of land that will host the project’s zonal base for the Centre and South Regions. The Divisional Officer for Mefou and Afamba Division, Mbemi Nyaknga was on hand to show the delegation around the piece of land that has been allotted for the project. It was revealed that Koumou II was strategic, inhabiting 400 people and closer to the South Region and covers the Centre Region.

The project was borne out of government’s commitment through a January 13, 2011 Prime Ministerial decree on the transfer of competences by the State to councils in terms of urban planning, the creation and maintaining of earth roads. The project was conceived to improve local roads and water supply infrastructure, facilitate the exercise of competences transferred in the sectors of roads and water supply amongst others. The pool to comprise 266 equipment will cover the 374 councils and City Councils of Cameroon through five inter-regional pools. The Koumou II equipment pool will host the Centre and South while the Manjou in the Djerem Division of the East Region will also cover the Adamawa Region. Tiko in Fako Division will cover the Littoral and South West Regions while Mbouda, Bamboutos Division will harbour the pool for the North West and West Regions. The Far North and North Region will have its equipment pool constructed in Maroua in the Diamaré Division of the Far North.
