2.8 Per cent Economic Growth In 2014 4th Quarter

The information was made public in Bonaberi-Douala on June 19, 2015.

Figures for the fourth quarter of 2014 (October, November and December), show that the national economy grew by 2.8 per cent in 2014, compared to 0.9 per cent in 2013. The improvement was witnessed in all sectors, with a significant 3.8 per cent contribution from the secondary sector in 2014 as compared to 1.7 per cent in 2013.

The primary sector contributed 1.7 per cent as against 0.3 per cent during the same period, while the tertiary sector dropped from 1.7 per cent to 1.6 per cent.

In all, growth for the fourth quarter of 2014 reached 5.7 per cent due to considerable improvements in the secondary sector. The information is contained in the June 2015 Special Edition of the quarterly publication of the National Institute of Statistics, NIS. During a workshop with company staff in the nation’s industrial and commercial heartbeat, Douala, the Head of the Department of Syntheses and Economic Analyses of the NIS in Douala, Nepetson, said the raison d’être of the meeting was to sensitise staff on the importance of their active involvement and prompt response in providing data during NIS surveys in order to respect the quarterly publication timeframe.

The Regional Director of NIS Littoral, Joseph Tamche, stressed the necessity of early response to data provision as late publication of statistical data does not help in addressing economic issues. He noted with satisfaction the slight increase in the Public Investment Budget from 5.6 per cent in 2013 to 5.7 per cent in 2014. Participants were also briefed on various methods of data collection in companies and how to administer questionnaires.
