Yaounde Emergency Centre Ready For Commissioning

The Minister of Public Health visited the centre yesterday June 24, 2015.

Inhabitants of the capital city, Yaounde, can now heave a sigh of relief. The recently constructed Yaounde Emergency Centre has now gone operational. The announcement was made by the Minister of Public Health, André Mama Fouda, after a visit to the centre yesterday June 24, 2015. André Mama Fouda was accompanied by the Korean Ambassador to Cameroon, Lim Jae Hoon.

Speaking at the occasion, André Mama Fouda said the visit was to evaluate the level of preparations for the official opening of the Yaounde Emergency Centre. He used the occasion to inform the public that the centre was now ready. “The gates are open today,” he declared. André Mama Fouda said all aspects; human resources, equipment, etc, were ready and expressed hope that the centre will perform well in saving lives.

He stressed that the centre will only handle serious cases and was not for simple diseases. “When there is a serious case, we can stabilise the patient before transferring him to the health facility where there are specialists,” the Minister explained. He called on Cameroonians to help ensure that good work is done in the new emergency centre. He said the instruction to staff is to save lives, after which the cost can be recovered.

Ambassador Lim Jae Hoon described the Yaounde Emergency Centre as a symbol of cooperation between Korea and Cameroon in the field of first hand medical services. He revealed that the Korean International Cooperation Agency, KOICA, was also preparing to construct a referral hospital in Garoua in the North Region. He said the Yaounde Emergency Centre was the first in Cameroon and promised to work hard to continue cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health in improving the health situation in Cameroon.

The Yaounde Emergency Centre, which is located in the premises of the Yaounde Central Hospital, is a two-storey building equipped with 50 beds, a trauma zone, emergency care departments, departments for seriously-burnt patients and x-ray. It was constructed and donated by KOICA Cameroon in 2013.
