They made away with FCFA 107 million during June 26th, 2014 pay day at the company’s head office in Bonapriso.

The notorious robbers that stormed Razel’s head office in Bonapriso on June 26, 2014 during pay day and made away with FCFA 107 million were on Friday, June 26, 2015 presented to the press. 37-year-old Aziz Mewada, B. Aboubakar 27 and Souleman Sali 35 were napped by elements of the Anti Criminal Brigade of the Judicial Police on June 4. At the time of their arrest, they were in possession of three automatic pistols and eight cartridges. Since then, they have been in custody helping the Judicial Police with investigations.

According to police report, the robbers’ informants who work for the company gave them every detail as to how payment is carried out on pay days. The two informants, who have not been identified, told the robbers that when the money is withdrawn from the bank, it is taken to the office where it is then put in two big buckets and taken to the pay area. The robbers break into the office at 3pm when the money was already in buckets, held the treasurer and a security guard at gun point and emptied the content of the buckets in their bags. The Judicial Police opened investigation and arrested the culprits one year later.

After acting the scene at the Judicial Police, gang leader, Aziz Mewada, who is not only married to an Italian, but has children with her, said they couldn’t make out the informants. As to how the money was shared, he said they gave just FCFA five million to B. Aboubakar because he did not remove his gun. The robbers were taken to the Military Tribunal in Bonanjo after which they were ferried to the New bell Prison. Aboubakar, should be noted, was implicated in the broad-day-light Ecobank robbery at the Congo market in Douala few years back.

Though part of the money was not recovered, Razel’s officials were satisfied because the robbers were brought to book.
