The two bills were adopted on July 1, 2015 in a plenary sitting chaired by Marcel Niat Njifenji.

The Senate has adopted two more bills that were forwarded to it by the National Assembly for second reading. The bill to establish the Motor Vehicle Guarantee Fund and to lay down its compensation scheme and that to ratify Ordinance No. 2015/2 of 2 June 2015 to amend and supplement some provisions of the Law No. 2002/3 of 19 April 2002 were adopted yesterday in Yaounde during a plenary sitting chaired by the President of the Senate, Marcel Niat Njifenji.

Before the bills were finally adopted, the Minister of Finance, Alamine Ousmane Mey, received several questions from Senators who raised pre-occupations concerning the various bills. The bills which were earlier adopted by the National Assembly also got the approval from the Senate. The bill on the tax code seeks to reduce negative impact of the provisions contained in the 2015 Finance Law, which increased excise duties on alcoholic drinks. The Minister explained that the adopted bill will protect the local industries from folding up thus preserve jobs as well protect consumers from price hikes.

Meanwhile, the bill to establish the Automobile Guarantee fund and lay down its compensation scheme according to Finance Minister will cater for unknown and uninsured accident victims in the country.
