Queen Elizabeth’s Husband To Attend Youth Day Golden Jubilee

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education is already making preparations for the successful organisation of the event next February.

Cameroon is to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Youth Day on February 11, 2016, with the husband to Queen Elizabeth II of England expected to attend the event. Speaking in Yaounde on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at a preparatory meeting, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Bidoung Mkpatt, disclosed that the Duke of Edinburgh will be present for the golden jubilee.

In this light, the Secretary General of the Duke of Edinburgh International Award Foundation, John May, is due in Cameroon from July 15-18, 2015 as part of the preparations for the August visit.  Last Thursday’s meeting with Youth Affairs and Civic Education Regional Delegates as well as the leadership of the National Youth Council, also discussed how to strengthen civic education and national integration awareness campaigns.

Participants at the meeting agreed that there was a noticeable increase in public indiscipline as regards dressing, corruption, alcohol and hard drug abuse, non-respect of the Highway Code, the return of banned plastic wrappings, etc. Meanwhile, Regional Delegates promised to step up the fight in order to ensure that order reigned. Responding to concerns about national integration, the Minister assured that everything was in place, promising that activities will be carried out with private and public sector stakeholders. He urged his aides to work together and be proactive in order to achieve set objectives; warning that the time for complaining and false criticism was over.
