A State dinner in honour of the out-going Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Cameroon, His Excellency Marcelino Cabanas Ansorena took place on Thursday July 2, 2015, at the Yaounde Hilton Hotel. The State dinner offered the Spanish diplomat on behalf of the Head of State, Paul Biya, presented an opportunity for the Minister of External Relations, Pierre MoukokoMbonjo, to review the bilateral ties between Yaounde and Madrid during the three-year stay in Cameroon by the out-going Ambassador. The State dinner, MoukokoMbonjo indicated, was not only to bid farewell to a friend of Cameroon but was also to celebrate the excellent relations that exist between both countries and their peoples.

While transmitting the Head of State’s gratitude to His Majesty the King of Spain, Pierre MoukokoMbonjo noted that the balance sheet of Ambassador Ansorena’s three-year sojourn in Cameroon was largely positive marked with exchange visits of authorities of both countries, signing of accords worth several millions of Euros for different projects aimed at accelerating growth and alleviating poverty in Cameroon.

Spain, the Minister remarked, has also been a major supporter of Cameroon in the fight against the terrorist sect Boko Haram. While wishing that the Spanish diplomat would continue to sensitise his government on the need to annihilate the nebulous terrorist sect, MoukokoMbonjo invited dinner participants that comprised of cabinet ministers and the ambassador’s entourage to raise their glasses for a toast on behalf of the two leaders.

In his own toast, Ambassador Marcelino Cabanas Ansorena, said his three-year span in Cameroon is full of souvenir and memories of hospitable people. “Our bilateral cooperation was extraordinarily reinforced within the three years I stayed in Cameroon and I hope it will continue to be strengthened”, he said. Spain, he said, is also concerned with the fight against terrorism and being a member of the Security Council, will always carry Cameroon’s voice for stability to be maintained. Cameroon, the Ambassador noted, is Spain’s second commercial partner with about 24 per cent trade links second after China.
