Olympic Games Qualifies:Lionesses En Route to Ghana

They are to play the return leg match against Ghana on Saturday.

One would think that the heroic performance of the Lionesses at the World Cup in Canada would usher football authorities to treat them with more seriousness. However, the sad reality is that nothing has changed as the Lionesses continue to be treated with levity. Despite a disappointing 1-1 draw against Ghana in the away leg qualifiers for the 2016 Olympic Games due to poor preparation, the Lionesses continue to prepare for the return leg under very difficult conditions. Not only did they go into camp late but they also lack some basic amenities such as transportation to and from the field of training, medication for the medical staff as well as other hygienic needs of the girls as they prepare for the return leg encounter against Ghana next Saturday in Accra.

According to the coach, Enow Ngatchu, the Lionesses were scheduled to leave for Ghana today Thursday, July 30th barely two days before the encounter and there will be no friendly match before the showdown with the Black Queens. Though the coach had expressed the wish for the training camp to begin on Tuesday, they only went into camp on Friday with a friendly against the Libih Thomas football academy which they logically lost 1-3. There was another friendly against Apejes on Tuesday which ended in a draw at the end of regular time of play. In post match penalties

Despite the fact that the squad has been depleted to star players like Gaelle Enganmouit, Aboudi Onguene, Edjangue and Zouga Francine who were not released by their respective clubs, Enow Ngatchu still believes the Lionesses can win in Accra to qualify for the 4th round qualifiers. However he will be counting on Raissa Feudjio who did not play the away leg match on July 18th.The Lionesses have to proof that they merited the 8th final position attained at the world Cup in Canada and their status as the second best team in Africa after Nigeria. To qualify for the next round qualifiers, the Lionesses will need either a victory or a draw with more than one goal. In case of qualification, Cameroon will face Cote d’Ivoire in the fourth round qualifiers.
