43 Women Associations against Boko Haram

They met on Wednesday July 29, at the Party House in Bonanjo.

The barbaric act of the Boko Haram sect has brought untold sufferings on the country in general and women in particular. Innocent children are now being used as suicide bombers in the Far North Region and mothers grieve over the death of their children and husbands in times of conflict. Something needs to be done to warn and sensitise women on the type of people their children frequent and where they go. It is for this reason that some 43 women associations gathered under the umbrella of Mouvement Camerounais des Mères in the Party House at Bonanjo and condemned the activities of the killer sect.

During the meeting that also celebrated the association’s 20 years of solidarity, peace and patriotism, the President of the association, Dr Latifa Mayou, said the role of the woman in a family setting is to assure the moral upbringing of children. Zogo Marcelline opined that vigilance and curiosity should be the watchword of mothers as far as their children are concerned. “Watch every step your children make, the friends they keep and where they go. Even during hard times, don’t let them loose, she added. Wouri Divisional Delegate of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Mbogbe Mbogbe Angèle Marie said mothers should warn children against running errands for people they don’t know since they can easily be deceived with money and become victims of suicide booming.
