Communication Officials Debriefed On New Law

Experts say the law puts an end to the disorder that hitherto characterised the sector.

Before now, it did not need a keen radio listener or reader of newspapers and billboards; nor someone who watches TV regularly to notice the disturbing surge in the advertisement of traditional medicine. This was just one out of several advertisements that showed that until the onset of the new law on advertisement, the sector was without fitting rules that meet the demands of the present-day society.

With the new law on advertising already in place, Regional and Divisional Delegates of Communication from the Littoral, West, North West and South West Regions, were debriefed on the new law during a seminar in Akwa, Douala, on July 28, 2015. They discussed issues of the new law such as offenses, functions of judicial police officers, guidelines and regulations on police investigation, and advertising law. While facilitating the seminar in the presence of Mireille Bisseck, Littoral Regional Delegate of Communication, Emmanuel Ndjere, Secretary General in the Ministry Communication, highlighted the importance of the choice of the participants: “Those who do the advertising are journalists, but they are not knowledgeable in the law. Reason why we began the training with Communication Delegates.”
