The National Employment Fund has published a Golden Book to mark 25 years of existence.
The National Employment Fund, NEF, is 25 this year. Created on April 27, 1990 by a Presidential Decree to facilitate job creation and the recruitment of young unemployed Cameroonians, the organisation has since become a household name in the country.
To mark its 25th anniversary in a memorable way, the NEF management has published a Golden Book. In hard cover, glossy pages and copiously illustrated with beautiful colour pictures, the 150-page bilingual publication is more of a pictorial presentation; probably for less cumbersome understanding. The book also has several graphs for better and quicker appreciation of NEF’s strides over the years instead of providing long narratives.
Opening with excerpts of President Paul Biya’s past speeches highlighting the challenges of youth unemployment, the publication presents pictures of past and present General Managers and Board members. It is divided into four main portions: Messages of felicitation and testimonies of past oversight officials, the organisational chart, a word from the present management, more testimonies, the major activities carried out; and a pictorial appendix of outstanding activities and glossary of abbreviations and expressions used. The NEF Golden Book or ‘Livre d’Or’ is therefore a timely reminder of its role in job creation.
