The plane was reported to be totally destroyed, all bodies burned and difficult to identify.

Some 100 rescuers from Indonesia’s Search and Rescue Agency have recovered the remains of 54 people who died on board a Trigana Air plane that crashed in the dense forest in a mountainous area close to its destination of Oksibil in Papua region on Sunday, August 16, 2015, BBC reported.

The plane was reported to be carrying 44 adult passengers, five children, and five crew members, all believed to be Indonesians. Bambang Soelistyo, Head of Indonesia's Search and Rescue Agency said, "The plane was totally destroyed and all the bodies were burned and difficult to identify," BBC quoted. The plane was equally reported to be carrying about 6.5 billion rupiah local currency which was approximately 486,000 U.S.

Dollars which was due to be distributed to poor families in the area.  Bad weather and difficult terrain at the crash site were said to be hampering efforts to remove the bodies but they have to be taken eventually to the provincial capital for identification. Over 100 rescuers made up of police, military and civilians were involved in the search. Officials confirmed that the black box had been found and it contains data on the plane’s operations and could yield clues as to the cause of the crash.

Reports say the ATR42-300 twin turboprop plane took off from Sentani Airport in Jayapura at 14:21 local time on Sunday, August 16, 2015 but lost contact with air traffic controllers half an hour later. Oksibil, the locality where the plane crashed is found about 280km south of Jayapura  is a remote and  mountainous region, which is extremely difficult to navigate. Bad weather is believed to have been a possible reason for the crash. A search plane was forced to turn back on Sunday because of dangerous flying conditions.
