A day with a multi-talented lady.

Cécile Eke, who hails from Yaounde, is a singer. She does video set-ups and also loves nature, travelling, cooking and singing. She started singing in 1998 and today leads her own group. Her inspiration and admiration was drawn from experienced artistes like Lokua Kanza, Richard Bona, Salif Keita, Bob Marley and many other jazz singers.

In her first album entitled ‘Ongola,’ Cécile Eke presents an Afro-jazz genre interwoven with lyrics artistically composed based on history. This is an attempt to pay homage to exploited natives of the Centre Region for their endurance during the colonial era. The tribute extends to the rich cultural diversity of Cameroon. The multi-talented lady looks forward to showcasing this aspect of the Cameroonian music to the Western world.

With Consty Eka giving her promotional support for the album, Cécile Eke cannot help but be thankful. However, it has not been rosy. She is experiencing challenges in distributing the album, organising concerts and paying for promotional spots. “It is a family project,” she explains. Most of her support comes from the family and extended relations. The solo artiste with a captivating and near-enchanting voice is engrossed in taking care of her son and also promoting her album. She is preparing a dance performance at the Cameroon Cultural Centre in Yaounde on August 20, 2015.

The rising artiste appeals to intending singers to be responsible with the oral and visual messages they pass on to the public, warning that they have “a two-way impact.” Music is a vocation and an indefinite passion for Cécile Eke. She thanks God Almighty, her family, and those who have supported her so far. According to her, “Better is not good enough. The best is yet to come.”
