FCFA 700 million For Fecafoot Elections

The information was made public by Joseph Owona at a press briefing in Yaounde on August 25, 2015.

According to the president of the normalisation committee of Fecafoot, Joseph Owona, the upcoming elections will be one of the most expensive ever witnessed in the federation. He disclosed that the elections will cost about FCA 700 million since they will have to send teams down to the field and there will be a central coordination at the seat of the federation. He assured the public that the elections will be transparent as the normalisation Committee is not going to support any of the candidates vying for the post of president. Litigations from the elections will be examined judiciously and with impartially.

Fielding questions from journalists, the veteran university don said the college was constituted from the tally sheets of the various championship matches as only owners of clubs will henceforth be members of the Fecafoot general assembly according to the new statute.  Drawing the balance sheet of his tenure of office, the professor said it is satisfactory as he is leaving a good statute as a legacy to Fecafoot, statute which meets up with FIFA requirements and serves as a model which has been given to other federations to copy. To substantiate the fact he said Regional leagues are now autonomous which is not what used to exist in the past besides proscribing individual membership into the Fecafoot general assembly.

The press briefing took place shortly after a meeting of the Normalisation Committee which was extended to members of the technical secretariat to assess the adoption process of the new statutes at the level of Regional and Divisional leagues, as well as pave the way forward for the second phase which is the election proper of delegates from the grassroots to the national level. Though refraining from giving a portrait of the new president should be, Joseph Owona reluctantly said he should be someone who loves football, be of integrity and be prepared away break away from the malpractices of the past.
