Tourism: Hotel Managers to Improve Attractiveness

A session to help project Cameroon as an attractive destination for holidaymakers held in Douala.

Cameroon is known for its legendary hospitality. Its visitor-friendly tradition, various lifestyles, and cultural heritage, colourful festivals and a rich natural attraction have won it the name ‘Africa in miniature’. Such attractions, according to the Managing Director of the booking portal Jovago Cameroon, have the potential to making Cameroon an outstanding destination in southern Africa. Frenchman Arthur Soria made the remark in Cameroon’s economic heartbeat, Douala, recently, during a session to sensitise hotel managers on the importance of promoting the Cameroon destination.

Blessed with other attractions such as beautiful beaches, forests and wildlife, landscapes, mountain peaks, rivers, palaces, monuments, museums... Cameroon is rich and needs a vibrant private sector to help efforts by government to promote tourism and improve its attractiveness.

The session, whose objectives were to enhance the attractiveness of the Cameroon destination and sensitise participants on the importance of having their structures represented on Jovago booking portal website www.jovago.com, was attended by over 30 staff from various structures within the hospitality industry.

Speaking in the light of government effort towards promoting tourism, preserving its attractiveness, and boosting tourism assets in order to provide several highly attractive tourism packages, Arthur Soria called on them to continue to boost service quality, comfort, security and hygiene. In this regards, Jovago Cameroon has secured partnerships with air companies and bus travel agencies to ease access to tourist sites in the country. The participants were encouraged to make use of the partnership to spur more visits to tourist sites in the country.

Two hotel managers said efforts are still needed in the area of incentives for promoting private investment in the form of Income Tax exemptions, interest subsidy and reduced import duty, as well as public investment to overcome access hurdles and increase the attractiveness of tourism.
