The Tanzanian presidential and legislative elections will take place on October 25,2015.

Tanzanians will go to the polls on October 25, 2015 in the 5^th five-year term presidential elections to be held since the restoration of multiparty system in 1992 to confirm the country’s progress in the democratic culture, The East African newspaper reported.

The election will indeed, be a confirmation of the democratic option and respect for the rule of law, as outgoing President Jakaya Kikwete of the dominant ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party has ceded to another candidate, Works Minister John Magufuli as the flag bearer of the party. The outgoing president respected the constitutional provision of serving for a maximum two terms. Although the presidential poll is topical, electors will on the same  day also vote members of Parliament and local governments. Following the electoral calendar as announced by the head of the National Electoral Commission, retired Judge Damian Lubuva, campaigns for the triple elections started on August 21, 2015 to end on October 24, 2015.

Seven opposition candidates and their running mates will be contesting for the presidency with John Magufuli, the candidate of the ruling CCM who is tipped to be the favorite. The real stake of the presidential poll rested with the ruling CCM whose primaries at the initial stage had 38 aspirants. The party’s Central Committee scrutinised the 38 presidential aspirants and selected five candidates for consideration of its National Executive Committee.  After thorough screening, the National Executive Committee retained five top candidates, then three and in the final analysis, Works Minister John Magufuli was declared as the party’s candidate. The Economist Intelligence Unit in its political forecast reportedly stated that, “CCM’s candidate is almost certain to become the country’s next president.”
