The Yaounde School of Citizenship and Politics recently organised a three-day sub-regional training for civil society stakeholders.
The 3rd session of the sub-regional training organised by the Yaounde School of Citizen and Politics has ended with participants reflecting on strengthening democracy and durable peace in the Central African sub region. For three days (21-23 September 2015), participants that came from Gabon, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon brainstormed on the theme “Negotiations, compromises, consensus in politics; Elements for peace and durable democracy.”
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Executive President of the Yaounde School of Citizens and Politics, Hon. Vincent de Paul Emah Etoundi lauded participants for their engagements and quality contributions during the training. Hon. Emah Etoundi stated that a school is not necessarily in an academic institution but also in symposiums as such where republican values are learned.
The Scientific Coordinator of the School, Professor Jean Emmanuel Pondi, expanded on the theme of the 3rd session with emphasis on how peace and durable democracy can be constructed in Africa. He said the theme which focused on peace and democracy was particularly important in the present context when peace needs to be strengthened. “We cannot strengthen peace if we don’t have a methodology to negotiate, to be a good actor for peace”, Prof Pondi stated. The school, he added, has the ambition to equip citizens to be good actors for peace and be ready for the role.
Participants expressed delight at the quality of topics and resource persons and wished that the number of participants should be increased. Jean-Baptiste Amvouna rejoiced that the different pertinent analysis enabled them to learn many things like peace negotiations and democracy. The three-day brainstorming that kicked off on International Peace Day on September 21, ended with the creation of the Federation of School of Citizens and Politics in Central Africa and award of attestations to participants.
