Cycling Team In Cote d’Ivoire

They are to take part in the cycling tour of that country christened ‘tour of reconciliation’.

Some six cyclists of the SNH velo club will leave the country today for Cote d’Ivoire where they are expected to take part in the tour of that country christened this year, ‘tour of Reconciliation’. The six cyclists were retained from an initial list of 15 cyclists shortlisted to take part in the upcoming 15th edition of the Grand Prix Chantal Biya. According to the national coach, Dieudonné Ntep, the selection was done on the basis of the performances of the cyclists during the external training camp they had since August.

He disclosed that while the six cyclists will be in Cote d’Ivoire, the other nine will continue training under the supervision of the national technical director and assistant national coach. He said it was the same scenario before the cycling tour of Cameroon when some cyclists went for the Tropical Amissa Bongo tour and the others continued training with the national technical Director, Joseph Evouna. The delegation to Cote d’Ivoire, he said will return by October 5th to continue the training camp until October 12 with a reconnaissance visit to of the race course.

He said though Cameroon was not present in the All African Games in Brazzaville and will be facing opponents who took part in the games like the Rwandan who emerged champion; their preparation has been optimal since September 14 when they went into camp. He said the cyclists were in good moral and physical condition to defend the national colours with honours in Cote d’Ivoire.

Meanwhile the third preparatory meeting for the Grand Prix International Chantal Biya took place on Tuesday, September 21st at the conference hall of the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education and it came out from that meeting that the preparations were well on course. Shortly after the meeting the president of the Cameroon cycling federation, Honoré Yossi left for the United States to take part in the general assembly meeting of the international cycling Union.
