Algerian Government Awards Scholarships

Some 24 Cameroonians are benefitting from free studies in some Algerian Universities for the 2015/2016 academic years.

‘‘I know you are very curious, but put in mind that you are going to Algeria to acquire skills and knowledge which upon your return to Cameroon you will be able to contribute in the development of the country.’’ This statement was made last Thursday, October 1st, 2015 by the Ambassador of Algeria to Cameroon, Merzak Bedjaoui, during a reception to handover travelling documents to some 24 young Cameroonians who obtained scholarships to study in Algeria for the 2015/2016 school year. The students are benefiting from a full scholarship from the Algerian government.

During the ceremony, the Ambassador gave a brief history of Algeria before and after its independence. Ambassador Merzak Bedjaoui said awarding scholarships was one of his government’s diplomatic strategies to strengthen and develop cooperation ties with other countries. After talking about the fast growing economy of the Republic of Algeria, the Ambassador said his government is still exploring other avenues to put in place a business platform with countries such as Cameroon. The Algerian diplomat told the beneficiaries to come back with maximum competence needed to push the development of the country ahead.

Amongst the 24 students who gained scholarships to study in Algeria, five are from the Ministry of Higher Education and 19 from the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training. Some of the fields of studies include Mechanical Engineering, Technical Sciences, Life and Nature Sciences, installation and Maintenance of Refrigerators, Price Control, Industrial Electronic, Project Designing and Architecture, Public Works Controller amongst others. So far, Algerian Government has given out 255 scholarships to students from the Ministry of Higher Education and 155 from the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training.  The ceremony ended with the handing over of each scholar’s visa and a dinner to bid farewell to the students.
