Turkey: Ankara Rally Blasts Kill More Than 100

Three days of National Mourning has been decreed in honour of the victims of   October 10, 2015 double suicide bomb attacks.

Turkey is burying the dead and catering for the injured within the context of the three days of National Mourning Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu decreed following two suicide bomb attacks at a rally in Ankara on Saturday, October 10, 2015 that killed more than 100 people.

The Prime Minister announced that 95 people died in the bomb attacks and 246 injured, 48 of them in critical conditions, RFI reported. However, the Union of Turkish Doctors that was part of the organizers of the rally in which the incident occurred said 128 people were killed, 516 others were injured and 165 missing, RFI further said.  Over 15,000 people gathered for the rally near the Ankara central train station organized by leftist groups demanding an end to the violence between the Kurdish separatist PKK militants and the Turkey government.

BBC cited Prime Minister Ahmet  Davutoglu  as having said there was evidence that two suicide bombers had carried out the attack, which comes three weeks before a re-run of June's inconclusive parliamentary elections. Reports say that following corpses examined and identified, medical staff ascertained that one of the bombers had been found, being a 25 to 30 year-old man whose name was not released.

The other one was said to be probably a young woman who had not yet been identified. The two explosions happened shortly after 10:00 as crowds gathered ahead of the rally. As at yesterday, no group had said it carried out the attack, but Mr Davutoglu suggested that Kurdish rebels or the Islamic State (IS) group were to blame. Terrorism experts, BBC said, have stated that the Ankara bomb attacks are similar to one that was carried out in Surcuc in southern Turkey by Islamic State (IS) militants last July 20 in which 34 people died.
