Mbella Mbella Receives Four Diplomats

The US, French and Spanish Ambassadors as well as the Honorary Consul of India discussed bilateral relations during separate audiences yesterday, October 13, 2015 in Yaounde.

Lejeune Mbella Mbella had a busy morning yesterday October, 13, 2015 as his cabinet in the Ministry of External Relations played host to Ambassadors of the United States of America (USA), the Kingdom of Spain, France and the Honorary Consul of India. The four diplomats paid courtesy visits to not only review relations between their respective countries and Cameroon but also to announce upcoming events that would further strengthen ties.

More US Equipment Coming For Defence Forces

Ambassador Michael Stephen Hoza of the United States of America, set the ball rolling at about 10:00 am to reassure Minister Mbella Mbella of his country’s commitment to Cameroon and her neighbours against Boko Haram. He told the press after the audience that he presented condolences to families affected by Sunday’s suicide bomb attack that claimed 11 lives. “The violence is beyond tragic. This is now a catastrophe,” he regretted, adding that the Commander of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) General David Rodriguez, will be in Cameroon this week to present military equipment the US is donating to security forces.

Two Spanish Companies Interested In Yaounde Municipal Lake

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Cameroon, His Excellency Jorge de Orueta Pematin, emerged from the 45-minute audience with Minister Mbella Mbella with satisfaction. “We reviewed Spanish-Cameroon relations including aspects such as politics, culture, fisheries, economy,” he said, hoping that the relations will be intensified to include exchange of high-profile visits.

He further disclosed that two reputed Spanish companies have showed interest in the rehabilitation of the Yaounde Municipal Lake for which funding by the Spanish government was “almost totally resolved”. Other projects to be revamped include a three-phase electrification project in Yaounde and a radar project in the Gulf of Guinea. France Braces Up for Paris Climate Change Summit

Ambassador Christine Robichon of France and Minister Mbella Mbella reviewed a calendar of events planned before the end of year. Featuring prominently was the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference scheduled to hold in Paris from November 30 to December 11, 2015 and to which President Paul Biya is invited.

Concerning the fight against Boko Haram, Ambassador Robichon told the press that France and Cameroon had similar viewpoints. She recalled French military assistance and support to the care of refugees. She also affirmed French support to the agreement signed between Cameroon and the African Union for the seat of the African Standby Force’s logistic base in Douala. To her, it was a laudable demonstration of Africans’ resolve to manage their crises.

Third India-Africa Summit Coming Up

Minister Mbella Mbella’s last audience for day was granted to the India’s Honorary Consul to Cameroon, His Excellency Ravi Kumar, who announced that the Third India-Africa Forum summit will take place from 26 to 30 October, 2015. The meeting which will be attended by all 54 African States will showcase South-South cooperation and set the platform for several issues concerning relations between Africa and India to be discussed.
